Michael Loyd Young’s books are always about his backyard. A mirror of the culture where he grew up, as in “Blues, Booze & BBQ” or the lifestyle he has adopted shown in “Beer, Bait & Ammo”…his visual trilogy is capped now with “Mesquite”, a warm tribute to the Hill Country where Michael now lives. All of Young’s books are visual poems depicting what is right in front of him. Travel stimulates, yet home dominates. Michael has nailed “home” with “Mesquite”.
Young’s work has been showcased in exhibits and magazines throughout Europe, Australia and the U.S.
Choosing black & white for Mesquite was a big artistic jump for Mike who is known for his absorbing color work. Why black & white? Ahhhh, the Hill Country feels nostalgic, feels like an old photograph you might see in your grandparents’ photo album. This book just had to be black & white. After all, it is an authored book, not a catalogue. It has personality and a point of view.
